Flying

You have two options for airports. We recommend that you use Google Flights to compare prices for both airports, as you may find cheaper prices flying into one vs the other. We have found this to give more reliably better deals than Kayak/Expedia/other sites, but feel free to try any means at your disposal!  Remember when comparing flight prices to take into account the potential cost of train tickets/taxi fees/car rentals as well.

IAD (Dulles International Airport)

If you choose to fly into IAD, you have three options after you arrive:

  1. Car:
  1. Train when you arrive:
  • Take an Uber/Lyft/Taxi from the airport to Union Station (check out pricing estimation for Uber and Lyft here, and taxis here).

  • From Union Station, you can get an Amtrak train to the Lynchburg, VA station (3.5 hour journey). It is important to note that there are only 3 trains a day from Union Station to Lynchburg that depart Union Station at 8:05am, 5:00pm, and 6:30pm, so if you choose this option, you will need to ensure that your plane arrives early enough to get your train.

  • Communicate your train schedule to us ahead of time, and we can pick you up at the train station when you arrive in Lynchburg and take you to where you’re staying.

  1. Stay in Washington DC, then train later:
  • If you want to spend some time in Washington as a tourist before coming to Lynchburg for the wedding, you can make your way from the airport to Union Station via Uber/Lyft/Taxi as described in #2, and then use the DC Metro to make your way to a hotel or Airbnb (or simply take an Uber/Lyft/Taxi directly to your lodging.)

  • When you are ready to come to Lynchburg, you can get the Amtrak train from Union Station to Lynchburg as described in #2.

  • Communicate your train schedule to us ahead of time, and we can pick you up at the train station when you arrive in Lynchburg and take you to where you’re staying.

RDU (Raleigh-Durham International Airport)

If you choose to fly into RDU, you can rent a car at the airport, and drive yourself (a beautiful 2.5 hour drive) to Lynchburg.

There is a possibility that we could come pick you up at RDU if you arrive early enough before the wedding, but we realistically probably won’t be able to make more than one or two trips.  Please ask if you are considering flying into RDU and we can see if multiple people might be flying in the same day that we could consolidate into one round trip.

The biggest thing we want for our wedding is for as many people to be able to attend as possible. If you are worried about travel, PLEASE TALK TO US.  We are here to help in whatever way we can!!!
