After researching several options for hotels, we have opted not to reserve a block of hotel rooms. The reduced prices for rooms available for a block were–inexplicably–winding up actually being more expensive than booking online individually, and given how varied our guests’ travel plans are, we weren’t confident that the minimum number would be booked for everyone to receive the reduced rate.

So, we are leaving you to your own devices in terms of booking what you want, but we are here to help!! We have guidance and suggestions listed below.

If you would be interested in splitting a hotel room or Airbnb with another wedding guest to save on costs, please send us an email at hoareauwedding@gmail.com letting us know what general area you’d like to stay in and what nights and we will try to connect you with someone else who’s interested!

The Andersens’ house (where we, Arthur and Hannah, will still be living come August) is at 3929 Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503. It is on the north end of Lynchburg.

The wedding venue, Riverview Manor, at 2097 Stone Mill Rd, Hurt, VA 24563, is south of Lynchburg. It is a 45 minute drive between the Andersens’ and the venue.

Most hotels in Lynchburg are concentrated on the south end of town, halfway between the venue and the Andersens’, near the small regional airport, about 20-25 minutes from both the venue and the Andersens'.

Some folks are coming pretty much just for Saturday and Sunday, and so may want to book lodging closer to the venue.

Some folks (such as the bridal party) may be coming earlier in the week, and will want to book lodging closer to the Andersens'.

Some folks may prefer a hotel, and some may prefer an Airbnb. Some are coming for 1 night, and some are going to be in town for a week. Some may be just one person, and some may be traveling with a large family. Because everyone’s situations are so different, we thought it would wind up being cheaper and easier for everyone to let you select your own lodging based on your own situation.

Bearing in mind some of the variables to consider above, here are some suggestions for places to stay. For both hotels and Airbnbs, be sure to check the reviews on the respective websites/google and double-check that amenities are what you’re looking for. These are suggestions based on our knowledge, but we haven’t stayed in any of these ourselves.

Hotels

Near the venue–

  • Quality Suites Altavista Pretty basic, but reasonably priced and close to the venue. Free hot breakfast, and outdoor pool.

  • Days Inn Altavista Pretty basic, but reasonably priced and close to the venue. Free hot breakfast, does not appear to have a pool.

Halfway between the venue and the Andersens’–

  • Comfort Inn and Suites Only 2-star hotel, but best Google ratings of hotels in the area. Looks very nice for a mid-range hotel. Free hot breakfast, and outdoor pool.

  • SpringHill Suites by Marriott 3-star hotel, but a bit pricier. Looks very nice, consists of “suites” with a pull-out sofa and kitchenette, which may be practical for longer stays/fitting more people into a room. Is pet-friendly for a fee if you’re traveling with an animal friend. Free hot breakfast, and appears to have an outdoor pool.

  • Tru by Hilton Looks very modern and fun. Pet-friendly. Does not appear to have a pool, but does have a free hot breakfast, and a very nice-looking fitness center.

  • Hampton Inn and Suites Hamptons are usually good mid-range hotels. Free hot breakfast, pet-friendly, and an indoor pool.

Closer to the Andersens’–

  • Acorn Hill Lodge A BnB type space with both king and double-queen suites, with kitchenettes and breakfast included. Reasonably priced for a more cozy and personalized experience!

  • House of Lydia BnB A bed and breakfast offering gourmet hot breakfasts and a personal touch, right on the edge of downtown, in one of the city’s charming historic districts.

Airbnbs

There are loads of Airbnb options in great spots that are very accessible, at many different price points. We’ve listed just a handful of examples below, but please, please feel free to search Airbnb yourself and message us to ask our opinion if you’re not sure about location!

Closer to the venue–

Honestly there’s not a lot! The venue is kind of out in the middle of nowhere (why it is so beautiful) so while there are a handful of rooms for rent in the neighboring town of Altavista, there aren’t many whole apartments/houses. Feel free to have a look on the Airbnb website though!

Halfway between the venue and the Andersens’–

This is not the area that we live in, so I’m a little less confident recommending certain areas as cool for a trip or not just because I don’t know them as well. If you find an Airbnb in the “halfway between the venue and the Andersens’” range that look good to you, but aren’t sure, let us know and we can take 20 minutes and go drive past, don’t hesitate to ask!

Closer to the Andersens’–

Again, these are just a sampling of some possible options. Please take a look and see what looks appealing to you, given the addresses of where we live and where the venue is. Overall, we would not recommend that you book an airbnb north of the James River, as it will be very far to the venue, or in the downtown area, for lack of parking and general safety. The areas that Google Maps labels as “Diamond Hill” and “White Rock Hill” won’t be good bets, or southeast of that. That said, there are some really lovely streets downtown, so if you see an airbnb you’re interested in please do let us know and we’ll let you know if we think you’ll love it or not! We are truly, truly here to help!!
